Research Project: Internet Situational Analysis of 1to1 Marketing/CRM  from Jan Vig  at Griffith University , Australia  1999/2000

2.4.1 Primary market research

The Internet can be used to collect primary research on just about any topic. In order to conduct primary research, you should complete a number of steps:

  • Define the ideal target market you would like to research.
  • Identify the discussion groups your target market might be participating in.
  • Identify the topics they might be discussing.
  • Search UseNet discussion group topic lists to find your target market.
  • Search UseNet discussion group content to find your target market.
  • Search e-mail discussion group topic lists to find your target market.

2.4.2 Secondary Market Research

Secondary market research is research that has already been completed by other organizations or government agencies. The Internet contains a wealth of

secondary market research. The World Wide Web is quickly becoming a central repository for research on just about any topic.
