The emerging global economy is bringing opportunities and challenges to business organizations of all sizes. The world truly is becoming smaller, and the Internet has taken center stage in enabling global commerce. As we move into this age of the global economy, more international business opportunities are becoming available. What may not have been feasible even five years ago is an opportunity to capitalize on today.
The Internet is a veritable cornucopia of contacts, information, and assistance. Whether we need a quote on an import/export shipment, an overseas partner, or information on multinational trade agreements such as the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the Internet is the source. We can also use the Internet to find out what needs are in specific countries, as we may have the product or service that fulfills their stated needs.
Online trade organization sites are excellent sources of current information.
Hundreds of foreign periodicals, provided online in English, give insight into current trade and economic issues facing different.
Multinational organizations charged with cultivating business relationships between member countries offer information and assistance, especially with terms and nature of trade agreements, restrictions, and protocols. Such organizations include the United Nations, World Trade Organization, International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank.
